Unit 2 ceramics

This project is more or less the same as the unit 90 but the difference is i knew what i was doing in this project. i had more of an idea. i used the pattern of turtles and applyed that into my work in ceramic and glass media.

this was my starting point with a water coloured drawn A2 sample sheet of colour and pattern.

the image above and the 8 images below show the patter i am working with and i am getting the clay ready for a plaster mold.  the clay i used for this is reclaimed clay.

i started out just making tiles out of the plaster mold but then i started to make bigger pieces which included the two vases. the big round one in the underneath photo and the square vase as well. i used another mold to make the square vase.

This project was on the subject of birds, specifically Eagles. These first four images show the first two samples that I had made. First image is a mountain of feathers and the next is a single wing. 

Next I started to make a set of wings and a body out of newspaper. shown in the next two images.

The next two images show where I have covered the newspaper in paper clay. 

The next 11 photos are where I am adding the feathers to the wings.

The next six images are where I attached two heads on to the sculpture. Having one just did not look right. I have two bird bodies attached together back to back. I then finished of covering it in feathers.

The next two images are of my samples being glazed.

The next 13 images are of the sculpture finished but not fired. 

The next 9 images are showing  the sculpture after its been fired once and then glazed ready for the 2nd firing. 

The next 10 images are of the sculpture completely finished.
